I was hoping this forum was going to be active when I found it. seems like no one is ever posting. is there any one out there that is just getting into game programming that wants to group up like a study group? I thought it would be a good way to help each other learn and stay focused.

send me a PM

you used to be able to fit a game on a disk, then you used to be able to fit a game on a cd, then you used to be able to fit a game on a dvd, now you can barely fit one on your harddrive.

Um - there are lots of people posting here every day. It's quite active...maybe not if you refresh every 5 minutes, but then you have other things to do, don't you? :)

The best way to do things is do some study, then post questions you have about it. There are lots of people, many of them professional game developers that visit this site. You'll find that, at first, gaming is very much an independent study kind of thing. With study groups, you need people at about the same experience level, using the same language, etc, and even then, it mostly amounts to independent study. I guess, if you do want to do that kind of thing, choose a language and a graphics library of some kind, and see if you can get a group going at the graphics library. That's also a good place to ask questions. Here, it's more general questions like game dev, general language questions, etc.
Currently using Blender and Unity.

Ahh, the joys of employment. All work and no play makes TheNut cry another day :D

One thing that works out for this forum is that we have quality before quantity. If there's a particular topic you would like to discuss, feel free to post something up and I'm sure a member or two will help you out. There use to be a developer Wiki here, but it never really worked out. Finding a study group is quite difficult unless you have some friends or students on campus that share a similar interest and experience level. I think the best thing to get you through game development is to work on some simple projects that you can share online and start discussions. The positive (and possibly negative!) feedback will help you become a better developer and motivate you to complete more projects and learn more topics.

I appreciate all of the feed back, I can tell there are some guru's here and I will definitely stick around. I can understand somebody advanced wouldn't be interested in a study group, but I always found discussing or teaching to be a good way to help myself learn things that I have a hard time with. So, if there are any complete newbies out there who need a hand getting up to speed send me a message
