I'm trying to do an addon for Blender, which is some scripts that are supposedly dropped into the addons folder, however, they don't register in Blender. When I first looked at the script properties, it said the script may be blocked because it came from a different computer. I clicked unblock, and the warning left. However, when I try to edit the script in Idle, it won't open it. It's able to open the other scripts in the addons folder so there seems to be some reason it can't open these scripts.
I have windows xp. Wondering if anyone knew how to make the script editable, or readable for Blender because I think that's the problem. Unless it's something else, but it seems odd I can't edit those scripts and I can the others. I don't get anything from Idle, it just won't open. I use the free avg antivirus. I downloaded the scripts as a copy, they weren't a zipped folder.
Currently using Blender and Unity.

Check the security settings on those files? Right-click, properties, Security tab, and compare the entries for the problem files to other files that work OK. You'd typically have an entry for your user account with the Full Control, Modify, Read, Write etc. permissions allowed.

I don't get a security tab. Maybe I need to log on as super or whatever it's called. I'll have to check that out.

Check your C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender folder (or whatever the equivalent in XP is) and make sure there's no copy of your script there. I had that problem once where Blender made a temp copy and for the longest time I couldn't figure out why my plugin would not execute new code ;) I don't use the python editor in Blender though, it's garbage IMO. Just use Notepad++ or some such.

I went in as admin and gave full control to users on the scripts but it still can't be seen by Blender and I can't open it from a right click with idle even though I can with the other scripts. I can open it if Idle is already open and I navigate to the folder however. I don't know if that's some quirk or what. Seems strange though. All the other scripts open idle with a right click except those three. They have a py extension the same as the rest.
TheNut, that path doesn't relate to xp, I'll have to try to find out if there is something similar in xp.

I found a zip file to download and it worked. I don't know what was different about the copied files. There were 3 and they were named the same, folder was named the same, but it didn't work.
