this seemed to happen without anyone noticing. its easier to use than unity. but doesnt seem to be as strong as unity. in terms of performance

That's kind of interesting. It's the commercial pro license that is free, too. I never know if that kind of thing is an act of desperation or some kind of strategy. It works for Unity, that's for sure. I have a lot of complaints about Unity myself, but I can put a web game on Kongregate with it which is why I'm using it. There are a lot of things missing in Unity like mesh morph and any kind of AI setup. You know, a lot of engines have a navmesh set up, like hl2, I think. Unity has all these addons that cost a lot, kind of like those "free" MMO's.
Currently using Blender 2.5, FlashPunk, and Unity.

its strategy, they have another engine coming out. this is to promote that one. one problem for me with unity is the help file. it isnt logical at all, should have been a searchable pdf. but unity was originally for the mac and ported to pc. logical and the mac tend not to go hand in hand

If they did this a few years ago, I might have been interested. DX studio seems a fairly easy to use engine.
