dont worry its not me

you used to be able to fit a game on a disk, then you used to be able to fit a game on a cd, then you used to be able to fit a game on a dvd, now you can barely fit one on your harddrive.

I've been told by a "true" metalhead that using a trigger isn't "true".

theres alternatives to electronic triggers, like you can use a metal plate or something, and itll crispen the sound of the drum too.
They custom design the "techno kick" to sound right for rock, anyway, but id like to hear a true techno roland tr909 kick on a trigger :) it would sound demon like. beefy as. techno kicks are better i think.

If I was ever the project lead for a metal cd, id crank the kick drum up in the mix for sure.
And id name a few songs after going to the toilet, for sure, poo is evil. :D

i cant help myself, i gotta show you this double kick song i made, you know... you dont even have to play it, just track it. :)

its just a bassdrum every tick (16th) just fill it up with bassdrums and you get the sick energy. hehe

You need to work on your compressor settings, dude. It sounds very distorted (in a bad quality production kind of way)

I use fruity studio as the host, and sylenth1 vst for the synths, maybe my use of it is a bit unorthodox. :)

As far as as Fart Lord really liked, take a look at your hardware, sometimes it produces noise and low quality.

Excellent - that's good;) I was asking because I wasn't sure whether you are using some sort of recent version or a really old one, where there was no limiter on master channel by default.

Got a little excercise for you: I had this sort of quality / compression issues (especially while trying to "pump it up") and then someone told me to do this (it was a MASSIVE eye-opener for me):
1) Create a new project, you should end up with the basic fl "dancy" drums (kick, clap, hat, snare), leave everything default
2) On your Pattern 1 enter the most basic kick drum beat, a simple 1-2-3-4, not the slightest variation, just basic
3) Max the volume of your kick drum using the knob on step sequencer
4) On the very same Pattern 1 insert a new channel - 3 Osc
5) All 3 Osc shapes will be set to Sine - first one on the left. Change all of them to the square one (third one from the left, like a horizontal squary "S")
6) Go to the 3 Osc piano roll and insert one C3 note, just one note, spreading across the whole bar
7) Click play and listen to the pattern
8) Now then... Add Fruity Compressor to kick drum mixer channel (should be 1 by default).
9) Choose 'Brickwall' preset on the compressor
10) Play pattern 1 again
11) ??
12) Profit!! ;)

Compare what sort of difference switching this compressor on / off makes. And there you go :-)

Next step would be to try to create an actual song with this setup. Try to keep the pump while layering it up with more stuff - don't compress anything else. This approach is somewhat limiting, as in it won't fit every style, but it should hopefully get you started big time.

Also, when you feel you need to add some bass on your EQ.... substract some mid / high instead

So your a bit of a musician/sound engineer yourself? Got any tracks you made I could hear on youtube or soundcloud or something?

Sort of I suppose..

I am a programmer. I used to work on a range of "business apps" some time ago, few years ago I switched to webdev in a very broad meaning of that word.

Music / production / playing guitar is my "2nd passion" lol ;) - not a profession, but I have enough knowledge to potentially bake some ready-to-put in shops quality stuff at home, on cheap kit.

EDIT: The "myStock" link in my signature contains 14 of them (I also posted them on this forum in some other thread, I think you even replied there ;) Anyways, check Dark Fire, Acid Journey, Cold Fusion and Night Racers
