Text Based RPG

I would really appreciate it if someone could maybe lend their expertise for about 30 seconds to post a reply and tell me where to get started or what I should be learning or anything that points me in the right direction!
Thank you so much for even reading this! hehe

Well there is one misconception that a lot of people (including myself) have had, and it's that making a text-based RPG is easy. And while it may be easier than say, the next WoW killer, it still requires programming expertise to be done succesfully.
That being said, there are 2 starting languages that are usually recommended on this site, and they are Python and C#. (And I will blatantly ignore C# for today)
I am a complete supporter of python because it as a simple language but has enough for you to learn from. (And it was my starting language )
For python, I reccomend this book. It was the book I started with and just look where I am now! :). You will actually have enough general knowledge to build a text RPG after the first 3 or 4 chapters, and then the rest of the book is devoted to 2D graphics and stuff, which I am sure you will end up doing anyway.
However, if you are willing to put in the time and effort needed for a high level language, I would recommend this book. It only deals with just text based applications so it would be a good starting point for a text-based RPG.
Ok, now here comes the choice, which book do you choose?
So before I completely recommend one, I need this(these) question(s) answered:
What are you planning on doing with the knowledge learned from this game? Will you make a career out of it? Make it a hobby? Is this just a one time thing?
Phew! That was a mouthful. I guess I am just glad to not be looking at a "next WoW killer thread again". :D
Sorry about that wall o' text :geek:
P.S. That was not 30 seconds ()

There's also a rather large community of people doing those games, even nowadays.
