Who is this person, and why should I care that he doesn't get a job?

Not to be cynical, but if he just wants to work on projects all day, and not get an industry job, why doesn't he get his doctorate and become a profesor?

Good question. I don't know. Anyhow, I've always thought he did a good job of helping people around the world with his "projects". I know they've helped me. So I just thought I would try and help him back. I would donate money, if I had some. :p
