I think if somebody writes a software which makes realtime screen fx we can play old games with good fx or make good games with old tech.
I mean it's a fake think but just realtime screen fx when playing the game it can be bloom motion blur etc.
Or black&white old movie fx.
Can't it be done? hum?
I would like to play quake2 with different screen fx or i would like to make a good looking game with reality factory :)
tell me what you think
i think something can work like screensavers do
or if there is a software published like that tell me please.
if i'd know some programming i would try it

First off, no one is going to make your game for you. If you want to make a 3D game, that takes serious, long hours of programming on your part to make it happen, as well as all the sprite design, enemy animation, AI and level design. It's your call.

Second off, if you are willing to make it yourself, google the Quake Army Knife. There are tons of tutorials to help you and if you have a specific query then there are stacks of communities that will take their time to help you.

Finally stick with it. You can do it; just don't make your ideas too big. Start small and read up about it.

Want to play old games?
Buy an old computer, install an old OS on it, install an old game on it then:
Play an old game like an old game should be played: Cheap, easy, fun.

Good luck! :)

I would debate the cheap and easy part of that. As a long-time Amiga user the prices of Amiga computers just keep going up. They are getting hard to find because the newest model is the Amiga 1200 which came out in 1992 and many are starting to fail due to leaking capacitors and other evils that only affect old equipment.

That's verry true and it's something I've been thinking about. It struck me though that there are a lot of us here duplicating effort and we probably all have our different strong and weak points.

It would be kind of cool of some of us could pool our resources and build something really great together. Just a passing thought.

There was an attempt awhile back to start a community project but it flatlined pretty quickly. :D

I like the idea of group projects, but they hardly ever work out because it's hard to get people to agree on anything. Questions like, do we use an engine or program from scratch? What model format are we going to use? Which genre? They generally fall apart before completion. Over at Linux Game Tome they used to do a Game of The Month, where they would redo an already existing game, which had some success for a while. They kind of quit it, though. A couple cool games came out of it, but the good ones were just basically started and then open sourced as a fork or the original.

That doesn't mean we couldn't try one, but it should be a small one, especially for starters.
Currently using Blender 2.5, FlashPunk, and Unity.

Actually, I think you are right. It would probably be pretty hard to get people to agree on stuff. Of course since I'm spending a lot of time on an engine, I'll want it to get some use and I'm sure others will have the same issue. Also strangely enough, I don't really like computer games much with the exception of MMOs which I love. So for me it would have to be an MMO. Still, I might try to find some like-minded people together once I get a demo together.
