Anything would be good, but most of the time synthetic video game music is what gets put to games.
But you know, since all these new quasi real games are coming out, the music is probably getting alot more real
with the game, so youd hear your average rock band, even death metal in games these days.
Im quite sure iron maiden could be used for background music, especially if you had some kareoke tracks with no singing
in them, that would be ripping background music tracks.

From rock (and hard rock) genre mostly AC/DC (yeah ... they're for me the very best forever), then some Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Metallica (and also Apocalyptica).
Metal genres - I prefer more viking/folk (with influence of black/death) - Bathory, Eluveitie, Ensiferum, In Extremo, Amon Amarth and such (long, long list), not so long ago I liked In Flames a lot, I still like 'em ... but not as much as named bands.
As I live practically alone in my house, it's almost impossible for me to turn music down :P.
EDIT: In test versions of my projects, such hard music is attached ... lots of customers wonder about this.
If you don't know how to speed up application, go "roarrrrrr!", hit the compiler with the club and use -O3 :D
