ok say your a new company and starting out and want to get big but your new. And you got a good idea(s) for games to make and you plan it out like want you need (engine, modeling tool, level editor, etc,) and here is the part i am stuck at. Where do you get the money? can you get funding or something and use that funding to get the tools you need and then make a demo and stuff and have concept art and etc. then go to a publisher? or do you go to a publisher first? because my philosophical thinking of making games is not to rush it, because if you rush a game for say Christmas and it has bugs in it then that makes you rep bad, but if you take your time to polish but not like take 6 years to do it then your game will be fantastic and will most likely not have bugs. But the pressure of finishing a game in 1 year witch publishers want or something should i just not get a publisher at first and get funding and get the tools make a demo and then get a publisher i am stuck can you please help.
How do you get money to make a game?

I for one do not hold much faith in finding a publisher. Twice in the last ten years I have had a couple big companies talk big $$$ for software I made (utility software, not game) and both times its was all big talk no action.
First one got as far as writing up a contract,.... then I never heard anything back. In hindsight, they probably just ended up coding it in house.
2nd time I traveled across the country twice for meetings and demo. The project leader from that company said everything was finalized and I should get a contract to sign in a couple weeks.
A month went by, never heard anything so I called, the guy got fired and nobody else within the company was familiar with the project.
Lesson learned, do not put your eggs all in one basket waiting on that big contract. Throughout all of this, I never stopped my own marketing selling directly to end users. If another publisher happens to come along, I will hear them out, but not going to flip over backwards for them. They usually want to just give you pennies on the dollar anyways.
For the time being, I keep plugging along and not lose any sleep with not having a publisher. I will sell my software on my own, try to improve every day and not wait around for anybody else.

Assuming you are serious (given Reedbeta's heads-up, this may not be the case), your options are:
a) Throw a big party, then check the sofa cushions.
c) Are you good-looking? Sell your body.
d) Is Daddy rich? Will he loose out some cabbage? No? Can you find a new Daddy?
e) Find a way to self-generate revenue.
Seriously, established money, be it VC, angel or bank investors, will not throw money on anything that does not have a history of any positive cash flow. You have to build a viable business before going for money, both to attract investors and to be able to sit at the negotiation table with at least some chips to play. Else, they will own your balls...
Looking for easy capital is a colossal waste of time...

This is all giving me a great idea for a game:
Its an MMORPG where you try to make an MMORPG and to do that you go around to random sites advertising your MMORPG. Then you go to the bank to get money for your MMORPG to hire coders because you don't want to actually work to create your MMORPG.
I would call it Shadow of the Colossal Waste of Time

Listen Armbuck, I'm going to be a little more charitable than the previous posters because I think you're young, naive, and idealistic which is a great place to be.
What you need isn't big money or an expensive game engine. You'll hit a wall and fail hard, and you'll probably give up. What you need is to create small, manageable goals that take you step by step through a project you can actually complete.
So, I suspect that you've never completed a working game, and perhaps have never even tried. That's your first task. Use a beginner's tool like Game Maker from yoyogames if you want to, to ease you into programming.
In any case, just focus on creating something simple like Tetris or Pacman, and see it through to the end including polish and getting it out there via a website or some other vehicle.
Once you've done that, tackle something more ambitious.
You'll know when it's time to go for venture capital and AAA engines.

make something like this! im making an mmo, well its at least the start of one.
you used to be able to fit a game on a disk, then you used to be able to fit a game on a cd, then you used to be able to fit a game on a dvd, now you can barely fit one on your harddrive.
