Hi,

I'm part of a project group made up of students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. We’re conducting a survey on first-person games for our Interactive Qualifying Project.

The survey is pretty short and anonymous. You'll be instructed to pick a game of your choosing about which you'll answer a series of questions pertaining to the game's camera movement. It would be a great help to us and our research if you could take the time to complete this survey, and if you know of anyone else who plays first-person games, it'd be much appreciated if you could send them the following link as well.

Thank you!

Cool. I took the survey. One suggestion - if possible, I would advise changing the phrase "camera movement" to something more descriptive like "head bobbing movement" throughout. "Camera movement" could mean nearly anything, like the difference between first- and third-person cameras, or between mouselook and joystick look, etc. It wasn't until I got down to the animations that I realized you're actually talking specifically about patterns of head bobbing.

I took it too. You should also mention in the start, that you would like people to take the survey for different character status'. I just put 'all of the above' :)

In my opinion you should include 3rd person games like Gears of War and Mass Effect. Their "over the shoulder" camera approach I believe is better executed than any fist person camera. It gives a more dramatic look and feel to the gameplay and also allows more flexibility because the camera is not tethered to the "eyes". At the very least, your survey should explore that and ask respondents how they feel between the two systems. It would add more depth to the quality of your survey.

We fixed up our survey to mention head bobbing and that it's appreciated for people to take the survey for each game status if possible. Thanks for the input and everyone's participation sofar. :)

TheNut: It's definitely something to consider for future research though this project focuses specifically on first-person games. I know what you mean though. Thanks for the suggestion.

(On a scale of 1-5) Before buying a first person game, how much does the head bobbing camera movement in it affect your decision?
I hate head bobbing myself but is this question directed at a like or dislike of head bopping?
it's just if someone likes it and it does effect their choice there is no way to distinguish, via the question asked, the chioce if they would or wouldn't buy it based on head bopping. some might not buy it cause it has it, other might not buy it cause it doesn't, so which is this question asking? thanks.

Edit: Forget this sorry the whole survey seems to be about headbopping, there I go not reading things properly before asking questions again:)
