Greetings to all,
I'm looking for a 2D game engine to try to develop a 2D MORPG game. Here are few features I might need:
- Language: Preferably C++ either VC++
- DirectX either OpenGL support would be really nice
- Preferably Tile Based (easier to work with)
- Preferably Open-Source as it has more features to edit/use
- Client/Server either master server networking, as it will be MO
Please do not offer BYOND, I used it. Yes it has almost everything mentioned above, however it is slow when it gets to 20 or more players online (connection lag), also it's 10 ticks per second limitation isn't nice*, each frame takes long time to render, complex code makes game to lag down completely.
Something similar to BYOND would be just perfect. Even BYOND would be perfect if it wouldn't lag that much.
*however it's fine if this limitation will stay in engine which you might offer
Many thanks.
Please suggest MORPG 2D engine

There's a project called Stendhal you might want to look at. It's already a game but you can contribute or simply use the Arianne server.

Currently using Blender 2.5, FlashPunk, and Unity.

It seems to be Java 0.o
Well I don't know Java language so it doesn't suit well

The only thing like BYOND that I know of is GameMaker.
Or, do you want more control and flexibility, and want a real 2D engine?

More control and flexibility would be nice, or at least similar to BYOND. It has it's own language, means a lot things can be done, it's not simple drag and drop like GameMaker is. BYOND supports everything I need, and it probably has all features which are needed for MO game, BYOND only doesn't support 3D, but I don't need it.
On other hand when 50 players are online, it starts to lag, especially when there is a lot action on screen, also it sets some weird connection delays making impossible to play.
So my answer is yes, real 2D Engine is what need, unless you can find something similar to BYOND but better. Just please don't offer Eclipse, Mirage and similar VB engines, I already tried them, they weren't that good as advertised
