How would you get yourself known in the world as a game desginer/concept creator. Would you just look for openings in gaming companies and share your ideas? Whats your view?

Game companies (as I have been told) do not typically hire designers from outside. Most designers start out as programmers, artists and sometimes writers. They work their way up. Besides, there's really no specific or useful job for a dedicated "designer".
If you have questions about the industry though, you may want to ask Reedbeta or this guy:

He has been in the industry for a very long time and knows a LOT.

There are fundamentally two main avenues. Move vertically or move laterally:
a) Vertically: As starstutter indicates, get a job in a "real" game development studio that puts out titles that actually sell. Requires a portfolio of code, but not necessarily complete games. Then, climb the internal ladder. Pro: Easier, less "capital-intensive" option and gets you into game development now; Con: Starting at the bottom can be emotionally taxing.
Laterally: Start your own studio. Publish and sell (posting it for free download somewhere does not count!) your own games. Pro: You have more control; Con: You have more non-technical work. Then, either keep it going, or use the resultant activity at some point for a lateral move by either jumping ship or getting your studio bought out.
Did I miss an option?

c) join your [older relative]'s company as a 'designer'..
d) become a kickass published book author / painter / tv or movie writer or producer, get name for yourself in that area, and then move into games
e) get a few million euros from somewhere and buy yourself a small game studio
f) network a lot, and get lucky - sometimes there ARE game designer posts available, but this is the least probable of the list.
