So, in another post in this forum, there's been a recent peak in people wanting to build yet another MMORPGWTFBBQ. :)

To counter that trend, I thought it'd be fun to call out current games that are or have novel, unique and interesting ideas.

So, what's caught your game developer eye lately (last six months) or coming soon (next six months), and why? What game is remarkable from the POV of the craft (technique, story, design elements, etc)? There are no other criteria: I'll take mega-blockbusters, indie hits, weird art games, anything. Doesn't have to be a space-changing hit, just that it pops into your head and makes you feel like talking.

I'll start with one:

- Braid (http://braid-game.com/): In some ways, a basic Mario-esque game, but the combination of small elements, like its use of time, the relatively uncommon type of graphics and the story integration make it feel unique.

Here's another interesting one I've seen some friends play: http://www.echochromegame.com/

Artistically, it's ultraminimalist, just black lines on a white screen. It's a puzzle game with an innovative mechanic - you have a 3D world that you can rotate the camera around, and if an object is occluded from your viewpoint, it is treated as nonexistent.

Echochrome, on the PS3, reminded me of another upcoming PS3 title called "The Last Guy", in which you have to direct survivors to escape zones in a game that uses overhead maps, Google-style. Yes, the key words are "zombie" and "Escape", which have been done to death, but it looks like they've taken a pretty interesting twist on it.

I look forward to seeing that one pan out.

That limbo game reminds me a lot of a classic game, Heart of Darkness. Not as fluidic, but definitely along that theme. It's a cool cool concept though. Love it.

Reedbeta, that god #$@& music is stuck in my head now!! AHHH!!.... I love echochrome..... I love echo.. whwha, snap out of it!!

I thought I would throw in "Klooniegames" as one of the best hobbiest out there. I don't know what happened to his site, but he made some pretty funny games and one cool crayon physics game. You can see a bunch of you tube vids on it.
