Most forums have an active topics list. Not devmaster. On devmaster, you have "Today's posts" and "New posts". Both of which are sort of an active topics list, but just don't cut it. The today's post obviously only show threads posted to today, so isn't any good to find older threads. New posts on the other hand, shows a complete listing, but filters threads you have already visited.

I frequently find it rather hard to find back certain threads I have read already that I want to get back to, but didn't have any activity in the mean time. Those threads are usually a bit older than just a day, and the "new posts" thread doesn't show them because I have already visited them. The only thing I can do is do a full forum search, or manually investigate the topic listings of every relevant subforum. Both methods are a bit cumbersome in my opinion.

So I'd like to request an "Active topic" feature. Either by a seperate link, or by removing the day filter from "Today's posts" as I don't really see much use from a daily view of the forum. The distinction between new and old threads, as in the New posts list ("The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts"), would also be nice :).

I think that's a good idea. So, if the "Today's Posts" is turned into "Active Posts", how many days old should it filter the posts? What constitutes an "active topic"? If the only change is the number of days to include, then probably a better name would be "Recent Posts".

I would use a thread limit rather than a time limit. Say, 50 threads. You could use seperate pages to go further back.

I just changed "Today's Posts" to return the last posts in the past 72 hours rather than past 24 hours. Does this work?

Well that helps a bit. But can't you just increase it to 30 days or so? I suspect the forum software automatically creates pages (since it displays "Showing results 1 to 20 of 20")
